Livestock and Collaboration in China

Rajesh Jha (HNFAS) recently returned from China after teaching the summer intensive course “Livestock Ecology” to the students of Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University in Xianyang. He has been serving as a visiting professor at the university for last three years.

Over 40 participants attended Swine AI School, put on by Extension agent Mike DuPonte, specialist Halina Zaleski (HNFAS), and MS student Brittany Castle in Hilo, and a swine time was had by all!

This Little Piggy Went to the Laboratory

UH Animal Science researchers are part of a transgenic study that successfully altered pigs to produce microbial enzymes in their saliva that could make swine digestion more efficient and reduce environmental impacts of swine operations.

In a one-two pathogen punch, Food Science MS students Cherisse Chun and Bog Eum (Grace) Lee won the top two honors in the Food Microbiology Division Student Competition at the 2018 Institute of Food Technologists meeting at Chicago.

Andre Seale (HNFAS) co-chaired a session and gave a talk at the 4th University of Hawai‘i–University of Tokyo Joint Symposium on Ocean, Coastal and Atmospheric Sciences hosted by SOEST UH Sea Grant. Fritzie Celino-Brady and Cody Petro-Sakuma, other members of Andre’s lab, also presented at the Symposium.
