Hawaii AgDiscovery Program

Hawaii AgDiscovery Program

CTAHR’s Academic and Student Affairs Office hosted its seventh Hawaii AgDiscovery Program this summer. 10 high school students from Oahu and the mainland participated in a two-week program designed to help students explore careers in animal science, veterinary medicine, agribusiness, plant pathology, and much more. Students were guided by chaperons Liana (Former NREM, Agribusiness, HADP Alumna), Jeremieh (TPSS Alumnus), and Sheldon (BE Alumnus). Students toured Hawaii Institute for Marine Biology, Waimanalo Research Station, Magoon Research Station, Pearl City Urban Garden Center, Pioneer, APHIS’ Plant Protection and Quarantine Station, and had the opportunity to work with CTAHR faculty such as Tessie Amore, Ania Wieczorek, Desmond Ogata, Scott Turn, Brent Buckley, and TPSS Graduate Student Mitchell Loo. During the closing ceremony, the students performed a hula taught by CTAHR Alumni Association President Kauahi Perez. Former Associate Dean Charles Kinoshita and Ken Ching of USDA-APHIS were recognized for initiating the Hawaii AgDiscovery Program.
