ISPP Program Curriculum
- Orientation
- An orientation program is held the week prior to the start of the
fall semester. Orientation is held either virtually or in Honolulu,
Hawaii on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa with in-person
and virtual tours at participating clinics and hospitals on Oahu.
- All
students admitted to the Supervised Practice must attend this orientation
program.
- The
purpose of this experience is to help students make the transition
between the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and the professional
practice environment.
- Supervised Practice Hours
- Interns
complete their SP hours and competencies among various rotations-
Alternate Supervised Practice Experiences, Medical Nutrition Therapy,
Outpatient, Food Service Management, Community Nutrition and Elective. It is expected that students will
progress through the rotation beginning with simpler tasks and progress
to the more complex.
- Students
must use time management skills and plan accordingly to meet the rotation
objectives. By the end of the rotation, students are expected to function
with minimal guidance by the preceptor. The curriculum is designed to
provide flexibility to account for varying types of experiences within a
designated facility.
- SP
experiences are granted academic credit for the MS Nutritional Sciences RDN
concentration through FSHN 667.
