The latest Student Internship and Professional Opportunity News Brief has lots of great opportunities for undergraduates and grad students, so be sure to check it out! Here are the highlights of this issue:

 

Fish for It

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have dozens of openings available for grad students in Refuge Management and as fish and wildlife biologists. Apply by January 16. Read up more on these openings on this website, and if you’re interested, apply here.

 

Head for the North Shore

Mike Melzer, in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Protection Sciences (PPEPS) is looking to hire graduate or undergraduate students for the next few weeks to work on a temporary project. The work is going to be in the field on the North Shore and the hours are 7 am to 2 pm. If you have your own transportation the hours can be flexible. If you don’t have transportation you can catch a ride with someone on the crew but will need to work the full day. Days worked can also be flexible. Health for the Public

The University of Michigan Future Public Health Leaders Program (UM FPHLP) is looking for students from underrepresented groups who are interested in learning about public health. The program is a 10-week residential summer program funded by the CDC to address the shortage of diversity in the public health workforce. It will provide students with opportunities for growth, learning, and awareness in the field of public health. No public health experience is required. All majors are encouraged to apply! The program will run from May 28 to July 31. Applications for summer 2019 are open through January 31. Applicants must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study or be recent graduates, and they much be U.S. citizens and have a minimum 2.7 GPA. Insects and Ecology

The Entomological Society of America and Ecological Society of America has a number of job openings, whether you are an undergraduate looking for graduate programs, a PhD candidate looking for a postdoc, or a postdoc searching for a tenure-track position. So if you have an interest in ecology or entomology, there just may be something here for you. Get Political

Representative Lynn DeCoite, vice chair of the House Committee on Agriculture, is looking for an intern—grad student or undergrad—to help prepare for Agriculture Committee hearings for the 2019 legislative session. The applicant must be able to commit to Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Check out this website for more information.

 

Be a Mentor

Manoa Mentors is a student organization for grad and undergrad students that tutors at-risk youth at local public schools on O‘ahu—and earns credits for it. Each member strives to donate at least 15 hours every semester, helping out during the school’s homework period or A-Plus after-school program. This semester, they’ll be at Palolo Elementary School. Be Peaceful

The Spark M. Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution gives away money each Spring to undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate a commitment to intercultural understanding, conflict resolution, peacemaking leadership, human rights, democracy, non killing, and/or nonviolence. Scholarships available are the Glenn D. Paige Memorial Award, the Philip Jacob Peace Memorial Award, and the Nobumoto Tanahashi Peace Fellowship/Scholarship. Apply by February 28.
