Internships are Open

Looking to spend your summer learning and working in a 200-acre botanical garden, university arboretum, and conservation research site? Lyon Arboretum is now accepting applications for their summer internship programs, a paid opportunity for those looking to gain experience in conservation and horticulture. Lyon Arboretum offers two internship programs, the Lyon Arboretum Friends of Lyon (FLA) internship program, and the Trail Building internship program.

“The practical experience I gained as a Lyon intern really made my resume stand out and helped me land my dream job,” says Lyon Arboretum Education Specialist Jenna Watling.

Lyon Arboretum’s unique internship program combines hands-on work within a chosen host department and group visits to other departments, which include: Education, Horticulture, Grounds and Collections, the Micropropagation Lab, and the Seed Conservation Lab. Interns will gain practical experience, develop new skills, and enjoy various field trips in addition to getting a behind-the-scenes look at the arboretum. Positions are available for the FLA program in the education department, grounds and collections department, and micropropagation lab.

The Trail Building internship program gives interns the opportunity to work on Lyon Arboretum’s 8 miles of trail to learn about safe and durable trail designs and improve existing trails throughout the arboretum. Applicants should be interested in landscape design, engineering, or urban planning, and able to meet the physical demands of the program.

Interns will gain invaluable hands-on experiences, build a strong resume, and make connections with those in their chosen field through this program. The summer internship programs will last 10 weeks from June 6 through August 11 and interns will be awarded $3,125 for their work.
