Outstanding APT Employee

The Dean’s Award goes to Lauren Miyashiro

Outstanding APT Employee

Lauren Miyashiro has been a part of the Dept. of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering since 2012 as a Secretary II and then was promoted to an Administrative and Fiscal Support Specialist in 2020!  Lauren’s hard work and dedication to MBBE for over 10 years has been instrumental in keeping the department going.

Lauren has been the only permanent staff member in the MBBE office for the last three years, managing all of the department fiscal and personnel requirements single handedly in the midst of the chaos of the pandemic. Through it all, she has been steadfast and methodical in managing all of the paperwork and helping us all keep to deadlines, in consistently good humor. It is remarkable how she is able to keep up with all of our various needs, often working late into the night to help navigate us through different University processes and policies.

Lauren is highly knowledgeable of University policies, processes, and the roles of the different system offices. She consistently applies this knowledge and leverages her networks in the University to efficiently guide faculty and other colleagues to advance their projects in compliance with system regulations, but always through the path of least resistance. She has a preternatural ability to anticipate our needs and often is multiple steps ahead of us, frequently completing tasks on our behalf before we are even aware of the need for her help. We would be utterly lost without her.

Lauren consistently has a positive attitude and is highly attentive to the needs of her colleagues, generously and cheerfully sharing her expertise to help us navigate administrative requirements at the University. When she doesn't know an answer, she is able to quickly work with the proper offices to understand different University processes and independently takes it upon herself to complete as much as she can.
