Pathogens & Hosts

Three Meloidogyne species have been reported to occur in Hawaii (Raabe, et al., 1981). The following is a list of the reported pathogens from this genus (Meloidogyne)and the hosts they infect. The list is organized by the scientific name of the pathogen species (CAPITAL LETTERS), followed by what symptom or disease a given pathogen causes and the various susceptible plant hosts. 

MELOIDOGYNE ARENARIA

  • celery (Apium graveolens var. dulce)
  • tree tomato (Cyphomandra betacea)
  • carrot (Daucus carota var. sativa)
  • parrot heliconia (Heliconia psittacorum)
  • tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum)
  • potato (Solanum tuberosum)

MELOIDOGYNE HAPLA

  • great burdock
  • papaya (Carica papaya)
  • strawberry (Fragaria chiloensis)
  • garden balsam (Impatiens balsamina)
  • head lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. capitata)

MELOIDOGYNE INCOGNITA

  • koa (Acacia koa var. koa)
  • green onion, 'aka 'akai, lau (Allium fistulosum)
  • pineapple (Ananas comosus)
  • celery (Apium graveolens var. dulce)
  • Calopogonium caeruleum
  • tifdwarf grass (Cynodon dactylon C. tranvaalensis)
  • Ficus ramantacea
  • Ficus tikoua
  • gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides)
  • parrot heliconia (Heliconia psittacorum)
  • Hemigraphis sp.
  • garden balsam (Impatiens balsamina)
  • pincushion protea (Leucospermum cordifolium)
  • Leucospermum reflexum
  • Leucosperum totum
  • tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum)
  • Barbados cherry (Malpighia glabra)
  • alfalfa (Medicago sativa)
  • banana (Musa acuminata, AAA)
