Pathogens & Hosts

Over seven Ascochyta species have been reported to occur in Hawaii (Raabe, et al., 1981). The following is a list of the reported pathogens from this genus  (Ascochyta) and the hosts they infect. The list is organized by the scientific name of the pathogen species (CAPITAL LETTERS), followed by the  symptom or disease a given pathogen causes on the listed hosts.

ASCOCHYTA BOLTSHAUSERI

  • lima bean (Phaseolus limensis)

ASCOCHYTA CARICAE

Stem-End Rot:

  • papaya (Carica papaya)

ASCOCHYTA CHRYSANTHEMI

Ray Blight:

  • florist's chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium)

ASCOCHYTA IMPERFECTA

Black Stem and Leafspot:

  • alfalfa (Medicago sativa)

ASCOCHYTA PINODES

Ascochyta Blight:

  • pe(Pisum sativum)
  • edible-podded p ea (Pisum var. macrocarpon)

ASCOCHYTA PISI

Leaf and Pod Spot:

  • pea (Pisum sativum)

ASCOCHYTA RHEI

Leafspot:

  • rhubar(Rheum rhaponticum)

ASCOCHYTA SP.

Stem Spot:

  • Tangier pea (Lathyrus tingitanus)

  • pea (Pisum sativum)
