Pathogens & Hosts

Three Sclerotinia species have been reported to occur in Hawaii (Raabe, et al., 1981). The following is a list of the reported pathogens from this genus (Sclerotinia) and the hosts they infect. The list is organized by the scientific name of the pathogen species (CAPITAL LETTERS), followed by the symptom or disease a given pathogen causes on the listed hosts.

SCLEROTINIA FUCKELIANA

Gray-Mold Rot:

  • Arabian coffee (Coffea arabica)

SCLEROTINIA HOMOECARPA

Dollar Spot:

  • seaside bentgrass (Agrostis palustris)
  • Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon)

SCLEROTINIA SCLEROTIORUM

Drop:

  • head lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. capitata)

Pink Rot:

  • celery (Apium graveolens var. dulce)

Sclerotinia Rot:

  • onion (Allium cepa)
  • cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata)
  • sweet pepper (Capsicum frutescens)
  • florist's chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium)
  • sunflower (Helianthus annuus)
  • tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum)
  • apple-of-Peru (Nicandra physalodes)
  • parsley (Petroselinum crispum)
  • garden bean (Phaseolus vulgaris)

Stem Blight:

  • eggplant (Solanum melongena)

Stem Rot:

  • Tulipa sp.

Other:

  • Chinese or celery cabbage (Brassica pekinensis)
