Parade After the Storm
Looking forward to the O‘ahu Research and Conservation Development Council’s third annual Parade of Farms, hosted at the Waimanalo Research Station, this Saturday? The Parade of Farms will showcase farms and agriculture-related businesses in Waimanalo, but recent storms have necessitated some changes in the tours. The Open House at the Station is still on—it’s on May 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will feature an information fair, keiki activities, and other farm experiences. But some farms sustained enough flooding and wind damage that they’ve had to cancel their tours. Those that are still on are the Slice of Paradise tour of Frankie’s Nursery, including samples of seasonal fruits, which goes from 9:00 to 11:00; the Cultivating Our Future tour of the GoFarm student plots at the Waimanalo Station, from 9:45 to 10:45; the Natural Nalo tour at 12:30 to 2:30, which visits Natural Farming-based Kanu Farms and Yogarden, which grows fresh herbs and offers mindfulness exercises; and the Horsin’ Around Waimanalo tour at 1:15 to 3:00, at Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii. Attendance at the Open House is free, but tickets must be purchased for the tours. Don’t miss the chance to see what Nalo ag is all about!
