Pivoting & Advancing Our Mission
Our gardens at the Urban Garden Center have been a special place for learning, exploration, peace and collaboration since it opened in 1989.
COVID-19 has brought tremendous uncertainty on how we will offer Cooperative Extension programs in the future. However, we will pivot accordingly and remain resilient in sharing this special place with others in our community.
Our passion and aloha to provide innovative and diverse horticultural information to the gardening public and Hawaii's youth, remains a constant.
COVID has taught us how valuable local food production is to local families and our communities. Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economical access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life” (Kent, 2008).
Our educational programs at UGC would not be possible without the hard work by UGC volunteers and generous donations. Your donation will be used to advance educational programming and services at the Urban Garden Center. Donations made through the University of Hawaii Foundation are tax deductible.
