The Ornamentals and Landscape Management Extension Program at UGC offers training, workshops, and educational materials and events to support the green industry in Hawaii.
The program works closely with organizations that represent the various sectors of the green industry.
Examples of areas of work: workforce development, strengthening the lei industry, edible plants and fruit trees in landscaping, pesticide safety, and management of invasive species in the urban landscape.
The annual Agriculture Awareness and Environmental Day
conducted at UGC has averaged about 550 4th and 5th grade students each year. The vent is organized by CTAHR's GENE-ius Day Program and is a multi-agency event.
Teachers can call the Urban Garden Center office at
453-6050 to schedule a science-based field trip for their class via the 4-H program. Tours are
offered around faculty member's schedules.
