Hear ye! Hear ye! The CTAHR Alumni Association & Friends is hosting a Plant Sale THIS Sunday, Novmeber 6, 9:00 a.m. to high noon (12:00 p.m.) at Magoon Research Station the back of lovely Manoa Valley. In collaboration with the Botanical Society of America, Hawai'i Chapter, the plant sale is to celebrate Arbor Day. Various herbs/vegetables, succulents, ferns, ornamentals, and seedling/microgreen kits will be available for purchase. All proceeds from the sale will go toward providing activities and resources to students.

Congrats to Cara Yoshimi, a senior undergrad in the Fashion Design and Merchandising Program in the Dept. of Family and Consumer Sciences, whose latest creation was accepted by the International Textiles & Apparel Association. Cara, also the CTAHR Stole Society President, designed a three-piece menswear look, which will be placed on exhibit at Innovate to Elevate, the ITAA’s Annual Conference set for Oct 26-29 in Denver.  

A very sincere congrats to Jari Sugano, Oʻahu County Administrator for Extension, who was honored by the Oʻahu Resource Conservation and Development Council. Jari was the honored speaker at the event “Celebrating Women Who Help Shape Local Agriculture in Hawaiʻi,” where the statewide membership of Oʻahu RC&D’s Hawaiʻi Women Farmers Network recognized her professional excellence, dedication, and leadership; she serves as an inspiration to many throughout Hawai’i's agricultural sector.

Anchorage, Alaska, was the site of the Society of Nematologists’ 61^st Annual Meeting – and Koon-Hui Wang, Brent Sipes, and Zhiqiang Cheng from the Dept. of Plant and Environmental Protection Sciences were happy they brought along their graduate students.

CTAHR’s Food Systems Working Group held its second quarterly forum in mid-September to discuss tackling local food sustainability from a holistic perspective. This forum, “Farm to Table: The CTAHR Connection,” which featured six speakers from the UH system focused on the business marketing aspect of food systems, attracted participants across Hawaiʻi.
