UH will be permitting employees to temporarily work from home on a voluntary basis as appropriate and viable, subject to approval by an employee’s dean, director, or manager. See the relevant forms here.
While as of this writing the UH has not ordered laboratories to be closed, it’s always helpful to know how to prepare in the case of such a directive. To that end, researchers will find the attached “Laboratory Ramp-Down Checklist” invaluable. It was developed to help prepare laboratories in the event of a mandatory shut down at UH and assist researchers to develop a plan to protect research equipment and materials as well as to prevent hazardous conditions.
Since farmers’ markets have been shut down for the duration of the COVID-19 crisis, local farmers are concerned about how they will be able to sell their produce, and locavores are wondering where they are going to be able to buy their local produce and value-added products. GoFarm Hawai‘i has been building a list of some resources for farmers as well as a list of farmers who are offering still offering access to food in non-traditional ways.
People won’t be surprised that in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, agriculture as a critical industry (as indeed it always is!), allowing businesses to continue operating as usual amid current and potential restrictions created to stem the spread of the virus.

Things are constantly changing, and the college hopes to protect the faculty, staff, students, and clientele as much as possible while still meeting the requirements of the University. Cooperation, collaboration, and caring for people in the college are needed for survive and thrive in these trying times. It is important to emphasize, as per UH President Lassner’s message, that the University and the facilities are not shutting down. The expectation is that we provide essential services, as indeed we do!
