Eat and Learn

It has been shown that hunger interferes with academic pursuits. Therefore, during the Spring 2018 semester, HNFAS provided more than 4000 muffins and 1000 Grab and Go meals to students for free. Grab and Go foods consisted of soups/stews, hearty salads, and make-your-own sandwiches. Foods were available at the UH Manoa Art Building’s Free Refrigerator, UH Women’s Center, University Health Services, and Agricultural Sciences Building. Food preparation was a joint effort of Joannie Dobbs and Alan Titchenal (both HNFAS), with volunteer help from HNFAS students Simen Sam, Vanessa Almeida, Katie Seaton, and Nicole Tomasa. The food was provided with the financial assistance of UH’s Student Activity Program Fee Board (SAPFB), and the Women’s Campus Club also assisted this project with funding for equipment to make quantity food preparation possible. Look for even more food to be provided for the students in the coming semester! Joannie and Alan are also featured on one of the campus banners that provide interest and inspiration all over the Manoa campus—reminding viewers to focus on nutrition, it’s located over by Varney Circle near Webster Hall, so go check them out!
