Applications are now being accepted for the L. Stephen Lau Water Research Endowed Scholarship of $1,500, which will be awarded in Fall 2018. The scholarship was established by Dr. L. Stephen Lau and Mrs. Virginia May Lau. Dr. Lau, emeritus professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UH’s College of Engineering and was director of the UH Manoa Water Resources Research Center from 1971 to 1990. Its purpose is to further knowledge of Hawai‘i’s natural waters by providing financial assistance to part- or full-time upper-division undergraduate or graduate students in the UH System studying any discipline related to water resources. They must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 for undergraduates or 3.5 for grad students. Applicants must submit the application form, evidence of eligibility (unofficial STAR transcript acceptable), and an essay or research proposal on any aspect of Hawai‘i natural waters and how their research or area of study is related to it. Applications are to be sent to Barbara Guieb at barbarag@hawaii.edu or by mail at the UH Water Resources Research Center, 2540 Dole Street, Holmes Hall 283, Honolulu, HI 96822.
