Cooperative Extension is proud to present a virtual workshop on the benefits or using integrated pest management (IPM) to help diagnose, prevent, and control banana bunchy top virus in Hawaiʻi.

Registration is free, and “Benefits of IPM Practices & Sustainable Strategies for BBTV Control-Prevent” will be held Sept. 1 at 6:00 p.m.

“IPM strategies are beneficial to Hawaiʻi’s ecosystem, by reducing the need for more/higher application of chemicals,” says Amjad Ahmad. “It works by integrating other strategies, with chemical application, to have better control of pests. There’s no cure for banana bunchy top virus (BBTV), however, utilizing prevention strategies (disease-free planting materials, crop rotation, insecticides, and others) are very important to prevent infection with BBTV. The workshop will provide more details about both topics.”
