Foe to Pests, Friend to Pesticide Education

Barry Brennan (PEPS) recently was awarded the Presidents’ Award from the American Association of Pesticide Safety Education (AAPSE) for his years of dedication to pesticide safety education. One of the early founders of the organization, Barry has been described by many as the “father of AAPSE.” He was UH’s pesticide coordinator and the pesticide applicator training coordinator from 1976 to 2001, when he was appointed associate dean for Cooperative Extension. Barry also became the PI for a Western Region IPM Center grant (American Pacific Pest Management Information Program) in 2001. He also helped to form the American Pacific Pest Management Information Network, which allowed stakeholders to respond to federal regulations affecting use and usage of pesticides that have a major impact on ultra-minor crop production in the Pacific.
