To apply for multiple majors, the student must meet the following criteria:

  1. Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative UH Mānoa GPA.
  2. Have successfully completed the introductory course for the proposed major; successful completion means obtaining a letter grade of C or higher; with the exception of FSHN 185 in which students must earn a letter grade of B or higher. Introductory courses are as follows:
    • ANSC 200 for Animal Sciences majors
    • EE 160 or EE 110, or ICS 111 for Biological Engineering majors
    • HDFS 230 for Human Development and Family Studies majors
    • FDM 101 for Fashion Design and Merchandising majors
    • FSHN 185 for Food Science and Human Nutrition majors
    • MBBE 304 for Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology majors
    • NREM 251 for Natural Resources and Environmental Management majors
    • TPSS 200 for Tropical Agriculture and the Environment majors
  3. Started math, chemistry, and biology coursework as [or if] required for the proposed major.

The application for multiple majors must be accompanied by the following:

  1. Personal statement explaining the student’s educational objectives and professional goals. There needs to be evidence that the student has clarity about the reasons for pursuing multiple majors.
  2. Proposed academic plan for the multiple majors, listing all course requirements needed to complete all majors. The proposed academic plan for multiple majors cannot prolong graduation by more than two years.

The decision to admit students into multiple majors is at the discretion of the college, as stipulated by the criteria above. Prior completion of all or most of the requirements does not compel approval. The college may rescind approval for students who do not follow the proposed academic plan and thereby delay graduation. Special exceptions may be made if circumstances warrant it.
