FDM invites the CTAHR ‘ohana to join in making graduation vestments

Cap and gown? Check. Tassel and $$$ lei? Check. Handwoven stole? Only if you’re a CTAHR student! Since 2018, the Stole Society Club has lovingly crafted graduation stoles for their fellow CTAHR students, who get to proudly display the eye-catching embroidered vestments over their gowns and – of course – keep as a souvenir after the convocation ceremonies conclude.

Hosted by GoFarm Hawaiʻi, the workshop will help participants brush up on their outreach methods, what the current market is looking for, and better ways to connect.

The Return of GENE-ius Day

After a hiatus due to the ongoing you-know-what, the terrific GENE-ius Day Program is back up and running for the Spring 2022 semester! The first lab was held last Saturday for students in grades 1-12. Prior to the lab, their parents picked up activity boxes that were specially prepared to maintain the kind of hands-on, engaging experience that makes GENE-ius Day so special. The program, which Associate Dean Ania Wieczorek began in 2006, was modified into virtual teaching for this semester.

Please join the Master Gardeners, Volunteers, and Urban Garden Center (UGC) as we bid a fond aloha to Master Gardener / Urban Horticulture Extension Agent, Kalani Matsumura. Kalani served as a Junior Extension Agent with Oʻahu County, Cooperative Extension, for the past five years. During his tenure, he led the Oʻahu County, Master Gardener Program, to be a successful Cooperative Extension program at CTAHR.

Does kale grow differently on Mars? What about radishes and tomatoes? These and other interesting questions were put forth at the 2021 Fall Undergraduate Showcase of Research and Creative Projects, held online December 10. Nine students representing four departments in CTAHR participated in the academic conference designed to highlight undergraduate research and creative work at UH Mānoa. The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) competitively funds undergraduate students who propose a faculty-mentored research project.
