In the latest newsletter from the Center for Tropical and Subtropical Aquaculture, director Cheng-Sheng Lee notes that with drought comes disturbances, resulting in small businesses not being able to fund themselves. But when the Secretary of Agriculture announced we were in an agricultural disaster, the Small Business Administration (SBA) legally had to extend Economic Injury Disaster Loans to those affected.

After graduating from Kalani High School in 1972 and matriculating to CTAHR, Fred Lau couldn’t wait to start his own business. So in his last year of college, he and a friend left UH to start their own business. Their plan was to look through the Yellow Pages for a nursery-related business with the least amount of competition. The plant rental section had only two businesses listed, so the partners walked into hotels and businesses in Waikiki offering these services to any manager who would meet with them.

Mahealani Kaneshiro-Pineiro joined CTAHR in 2019 in the Dept. of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM). She is an Instructor Faculty with 100% Instruction. Her instruction focuses on experiential learning, and she is currently teaching NREM courses 192, 203, 251, 492, and 665.
