Register now for a new AgrAbility Regional Workshop in Hawaiʻi; the event will be held at the Grand Naniloa Hotel in Hilo. Sessions will include topics on WRASAP, AgrAbility, assistive technology, behavioral health resources, and business planning. Participants will also tour local agricultural businesses, including coffee and tropical horticulture farms, volcano winery, and farms serving Hawaiʻi military veterans.
Panaʻewa, Hawaiʻi Island – A total of 15 subsistence-agricultural lots were awarded by the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands last month. What’s more, the lucky families will receive agricultural training workshops by CTAHR faculty and staff. The goal is to provide the Native Hawaiian beneficiaries with the opportunity to both live and cultivate food on their lots.
During Spring 2023, in the course FDM 338 - 2D/3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD), students embarked on a journey of crafting 3D virtual garments and catwalks, fashion flats and illustrations, along with designing captivating graphics for t-shirts, all stemming from their design concepts. Under Dr. Ju-Young Kang's guidance, students utilized various fashion CAD software, including Optitex, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. This experience provided students with valuable opportunities to explore the applications of technology in the fashion industry. Beyond showcasing their boundless creativity, this 2D/3D CAD project stands as a testament to the remarkable fusion of technology and imagination. “Orchids and Anthuriums - A Discussion with Dr. Teresita D. Amore,” highlighted the latest episode of the podcast Plants, People, Science by the American Society for Horticultural Science. In this fun and lively episode, Tessie explains to hosts Sam and Lara her orchid and anthurium breeding program, the traits that growers and designers are looking for, the rewarding aspects of her job, and what led to her career.
A throng of landscapers, farmers, and residents showed up for Sterile Landscape Tree Field Day at the Waimānalo Research Station, hosted by Ken Leonhardt and Alberto Ricordi of the Dept. of Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences. Since then, CTAHR has fielded multiple requests for an encore performance.
