CTAHR Extension and the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council are partnering on a series of informal virtual talks with local cattle producers about the impact of COVID-19 on their livestock operations. The goal of the Livestock Producers Pau Hana is to foster communication, increase collaboration, and strengthen the Hawai‘i livestock industry as farmers and ranchers endure and emerge from the economic crisis.
As a way to raise awareness of Earth Day, students in CTAHR’s Sustainable Plant and Soil Health Management class have created a new video on Soil Health Management that illustrates the importance of keeping the soil covered.
Ever heard of floral jewelry? Beautiful rings, bracelets, and earrings are crafted from flowers, leaves—even live plants. Combined with wire and ribbon, they’re a stunning amalgam of the natural and the created, the ephemeral and the enduring. Floral jewelry pieces are only some of the astonishing plant artworks created by Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences students taking Floriculture Arts.
Cheng-Sheng Lee, executive director of the Center for Tropical and Subtropical Aquaculture, sent a special Earth Day edition of the CTSA’s Regional e-Notes, reflecting on an Earth Day unlike any that has come before.
UH sent out an email discussing the opportunity to volunteer to help the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations with its backlog of unemployment insurance claims. The email said, “we applaud those of you who have already signed up to help. The University of Hawaii fully supports any employee who wants to assist in this effort.”
