Congrats to Jinan Banna of the Dept. of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences for being granted a Gold Author Recognition Award from the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior! Jinan, who performs research on obesity prevention and nutrition education, has authored or co-authored on numerous topics in the journal over the past 10 years, including the dietary assessment of low-income Filipinos in Oʻahu and how to measure food waste of children and adolescents. Her work has implications for minority groups, youth, and the environment.
The CTAHR Banquet is set for Friday, May 6 at the Ala Moana Hotel – but even if the festivities are scratched due to the omnivorous omicron, the 2022 Dean’s Awards for Excellence will go on as planned. This article serves as a call for APT and Civil Service nominations. The purpose of all awards is to recognize excellence in the workplace.
Tina Lau has been an advocate for plants and Hawaiian ecosystems since graduating from UH Mānoa with a BA and MS in Botanical Sciences, an organic gardener since 2000, and a serious gardener of a 1/3-acre garden in Eastern Oregon, where the abundance of food grown led her to learn home canning and creative cooking. She’s also worked as an Invasive Species Specialist for The Nature Conservancy, as a secondary school teacher, and most recently, teaching an undergraduate resource management course for the UHM Nutrition Programs.

Research and Extension Experiences for Undergraduates, an Education and Workforce Development program of the USDA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative, is seeking undergraduate applicants for this 8-week, in-person program to be held June 6-July 29.

Lyon Arboretum is accepting applications for the Lyon Arboretum Summer Internship Program, and we are looking for excited and motivated persons to make up our 2022 intern cohort. Lyon is located in back of beautiful Mānoa Valley, and is part of the University of Hawaiʻi ʻohana.
