Rajesh Jha of HNFAS connects with prestigious publications

In the Journals

The journal Animals has awarded its 2022 Best Paper to Rajesh Jha and his grad students Razib Das, Sophia Oak, and Pravin Mishra, all of the Dept. of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences. Congrats! Their paper, “Probiotics (Direct-fed microbials) in poultry nutrition and their effects on nutrient utilization, growth and laying performance, and gut health: A systematic review,” explores their alternative to the poultry industry’s routine practice of administering in-feed antibiotics to promote growth and manage gut microbiota. A growing understanding of the environmental and human health consequences of antibiotic overuse in livestock production has led to banning or regulating antibiotics as feed additives.

Back to the Plants

A career journalist becomes an Ag scientist

Back to the Plants

Constantly digging in the dirt as a kid, I’m not sure when I first became passionate about plants. It just seemed natural from the ground up, surely budding in my heart. My first jobs shed light into the puzzling plant kingdom, in the form of lawn care and landscaping work in the Sunshine State, along the Space Coast of Central Florida, a barrier island framed by river and ocean. I found solace in the natural world outdoors, in all plants fruiting, flowering, and growing, developing an affinity for palms of dreamy tropical isles.

Be Water Wise

UGC, Master Gardeners to host workshop Aug. 13

Be Water Wise

Join the Oʻahu Master Gardeners at the Urban Garden Center in Pearl City and learn about low-water use gardening with succulents at its Water-Wise Gardening Workshop. The morning event will give participants a glimpse into a low-water use garden, which can lead to bigger projects that enhance home landscapes while conserving water. Participants will also create a starter dish garden of succulents to take home (6 x 4 inch).
