What’s the best way to conclude a tour of CTAHR? Judging from the happy faces of Kapolei High School students, it’s by receiving a sweet and nutritional treat. On Friday, February 24, the group of youths who are potentially matriculating to UH visited various colleges on the Mānoa campus, concluding their field trip with Lara Hackney of the Food Science & Human Nutrition program.
Fashion Design and Merchandising 430 will present “Supersonic, ” the 57th UHM Fashion Show, on Sunday, April 30, at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center. “We have limited seats, so purchase your tickets today!” says student Cara Yoshimi and Fashion Show lead.
Every year, the student Horticulture Club in the Department of Agronomy & Horticulture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln plans three field trips. Two are generally short two-day trips; one is a longer 5-day Spring Break trip. Their goal is to explore as many different horticulture opportunities as possible.
Commercial and backyard gardeners alike will tell you the same thing: fruit is on the tree one day, and gone the next. The culprit? In addition to the local bulbul, doves, cardinals, and myna birds, the rose-ringed parakeet is now a known culprit. These beautiful but voracious invasive pests have been on Oʻahu since the 1930’s, but are quickly growing in population numbers.
Continuing a tradition that goes back more than three decades, the icons of Hawaiʻi agriculture, human nutrition, entomology, conservation, fashion design, human development, bioengineering, pre-veterinary care, natural resource management, and more will assemble April 13 to celebrate together.
