The Dean’s Award goes to Mahealani Kaneshiro-Pineiro

Excellence in Teaching

Mahealani Kaneshiro-Pineiro joined CTAHR in 2019 in the Dept. of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM). She is an Instructor Faculty with 100% Instruction. Her instruction focuses on experiential learning, and she is currently teaching NREM courses 192, 203, 251, 492, and 665.

The Dean’s Award goes to Andre Seale

Ka Pouhana (Mentor)

As a graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi’s Zoology Ph.D. program, Dr. Andre Seale found his way to CTAHR as a current Associate Research professor in the Dept. of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences. He has made a positive impact on his students, engaging them through both real-world experiences outside of the classroom, as well as creating a welcoming and encouraging learning environment within.

The Dean’s Award goes to Lauren Miyashiro

Outstanding APT Employee

Lauren Miyashiro has been a part of the Dept. of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering since 2012 as a Secretary II and then was promoted to an Administrative and Fiscal Support Specialist in 2020!  Lauren’s hard work and dedication to MBBE for over 10 years has been instrumental in keeping the department going.

The Ka Hana Poʻokela Award goes to Roshan Paudel

Outstanding Graduate Student

Originally from Nepal, Roshan Paudel joined CTAHR as a Master’s student in Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences in 2016. He has been further expanding his knowledge for almost seven years as a current Ph.D. student in Tropical Plant Pathology. He has been involved in multiple organizations and programs, from the Graduate Student Organization (GSO), Society of Nematologists, East-West Center Exchange Program, and more, to volunteering with our neighboring Noelani Elementary School as a school garden activity coordinator.

The Ka Hana Poʻokela Award goes to Kasey Purcell

Outstanding Undergraduate Student

Currently in her last semester at CTAHR, Kasey Purcell is an undergraduate student in the Dietetics program. In almost four years here, she has served as a CTAHR student ambassador for three of them, now serving as the organization’s president. Whether in her work, academics, or volunteering, Kasey is quick to take on a leadership role when she is called upon to step up to the plate, and takes on challenges and responsibilities beyond what is expected of a student.
