Andre Seale (HNFAS) co-chaired a session and gave a talk at the 4th University of Hawai‘i–University of Tokyo Joint Symposium on Ocean, Coastal and Atmospheric Sciences hosted by SOEST UH Sea Grant. Fritzie Celino-Brady and Cody Petro-Sakuma, other members of Andre’s lab, also presented at the Symposium.

David Christopher (MBBE) joined more than 350 other runners to run the 2018 “Freedom Run 5K” to raise funds for epilepsy education, treatment, and research. He placed 9th overall, with a time of 21:24! Way to go, and way to do good!

Fulbright scholar S.M. Kamruzzaman will give two lectures on animal science on Monday, July 2. The first, at 10 a.m., will be on “Medicinal Plants with Anti-Platelet Activity.” The second, at 2:00 p.m., will focus on “Transboundary Animal Diseases in South Asia: Concerns and Challenges.” Both will be in AgSci 219.

Volunteers from the East Hawaiʻi Island Master Gardener program will be at the Hilo Orchid Society Annual Show and Sale to answer questions and assist home gardeners with horticultural and gardening information on Friday, July 13, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturday, July 14, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Each year students in the life sciences at UHM present their research at the annual student-run Albert L. Tester Memorial Symposium. CTAHR students who participated last year include Nathaniel Wehr (NREM) and Michel Martinez-Sepulveda (TPSS, pictured). Now nominations are sought for next year's Tester Symposium keynote speaker.
