A recent study from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital describes a new method for genome editing that could lead to safer, more targeted strategies for treating life-threatening diseases such as some cancers and blood diseases—with less risk of unwanted mutations.

Welcome to Glenn Evans, the new Kaua‘i County Administrator! Glenn will be responsible for operating and maintaining the agricultural research station in Wailua and County Extension office in Līhu‘e, and will focus on assisting Kaua‘i County in accomplishing the college’s mission on Kaua‘i.

Many families have been homeschooling their keiki due to the impact of COVID-19, and new resources are always welcome! Normally celebrated at the CTAHR Annual Banquet, this year’s Dean’s Award recipients will be honored here, on your laptops and tablets, and with their names carved into the plaques that adorn Gilmore Hall. The 2020 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching goes to Marie Kainoa Fialkowski Revilla.

If you’ve never tried ‘awa before, now is the time! ‘Awa, or kava (Piper methysticum), is one of the 27 canoe plants brought to Hawaiʻi by the early Polynesians and cultivated here, and there are at least 13 varieties, explains Extension agent Glenn Teves. ʻAwa is consumed for its relaxing effects throughout the Pacific Ocean cultures of Polynesia.
