Sanjeev Wasti, a recent alumnus of the Dept. of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences, has been awarded the 2020 Poultry Science Association Hatchery Outstanding Student Member Award! He will receive a plaque and $1,000 at the 2020 PSA virtual meeting.

One of the several ways that growth hormone (GH) relates to the growth physiology of teleost fishes, like tilapia, is that it helps them absorb nutrients. In a new study, the Dept. of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences investigated the effects of GH on the gene expression of nutrient transporters in the Mozambique tilapia.

Animal Sciences MS grad Nicole Pono Correa was the first to introduce the tough, muscular Texel breed of sheep to the Islands and has been successful with these animals on her ranch. The co-owner—with her mom—of the Double D Farm and Ranch on the north shore of O‘ahu, Nicole was recently interviewed by livestock organization Prime Texels Puerto Rico.
 

Family and Consumer Sciences Extension agent Heather Greenwood-Junkermeier is a regular Aging Matters columnist in The Maui News. To add a new perspective, she’s now collaborating with Lori Yancura of Human Development and Family Studies. Lori’s students in her Middle Age and Aging class got a chance to showcase their knowledge by publishing an article that would reach the 20,000 subscribers of The Maui News!
