A Star Is Grown

In only the latest of a long string of honors, Emily Teng (TPSS) has been awarded the Richard T. Meister Scholarship by the American Floral Endowment. The scholarship, which awards $4000, is dedicated to the outstanding accomplishments of those in university Extension.

Emily, who is completing her Ph.D. in Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences, plans on working in floriculture production and variety improvement research. In her dissertation research, she is analyzing the pigments in poinsettia bracts. Since heat delay is a major obstacle for poinsettia growers in warm climates, her research focuses on the effects of heat delay in poinsettias on anthocyanin production in the bracts.
