Talk Science

Have you ever struggled to communicate the importance of your research to a public audience? Michael Kantar (TPSS) recently organized a Speaking Science workshop in partnership with Cornell’s Alliance for Science and Story Collider. This workshop was aimed at equipping graduate students with communication tools to effectively engage the public sphere. Interactive breakout sessions included how to talk to reporters, effective uses of social media, writing opinion pieces, and how to craft one’s personal science story. Participants included grad students Emily Teng and Aimee Uyehara (both TPSS). And he’s bringing the learning home: if these topics sound like something you’d be interested in, you’re encouraged to contact Michael Kantar at mbkantar@hawaii.edu to get connected with resources on science public engagement.
