Livestock Aloha
After years of holding the Hawai‘i County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale at the Mealani Research Station, this year the Hawai‘i County 4-H Livestock Association decided they had outgrown the facility. So thanks to local rancher Brian Anderson, who offered to donate the use of his facility, this year’s show was held down the road at the Rocking Chair Ranch (aka Anderson Arena). The 61st annual Livestock Show and Sale was the project conclusion for 40 youth who had been working for many weeks feeding, training, and grooming their steers, heifers, pigs, goats, lambs, rabbits, and poultry. As always, the community came out to support these youth at the sale, which this year netted over $74,000. Photos from this year’s highly successful show can be viewed on the East Hawai‘i 4-H & Hawai‘i County 4-H Livestock Facebook page.
