Plants, Animals, and People!

Congratulations to Emily Teng (TPSS), winner of this year’s Ka Hana Po‘okela award for student service, and Jenee Odani (HNFAS), recipient of the Ka Pouhana mentor award! Emily has served as a member of the TPSS GSO, including mentoring undergraduate and grad students in planning and organizing the project of growing poinsettias for their annual Christmas sale. Last year the TPSS GSO and the Horticultural Society made almost $4000 through the sale of the poinsettias, which was used to fund TPSS students’ professional development activities, including attending the American Society for Horticultural Sciences conference. Jenee’s student nominators say that she helps them in and out of the classroom and has not only helped them to succeed in the classes she teaches but gives them study skills that improve their grades and understanding in other courses as well. As the advisor for the Pre-Vet club, she mentors students to match them with useful internship and volunteer opportunities and helps them create strong applications for veterinary schools. Her grateful students say that her generosity with her time and knowledge and her passion for her subject make her the best teacher and mentor they’ve ever had! Come cheer Emily, Jenee, and the other illustrious CTAHR awardees at this year’s Awards Banquet on May 4! Registration is now open at the Banquet homepage, so secure your spot today!
