Brent Sipes (PEPS), professor of Tropical Plant Protection, recently offered a 2-week training course on environmentally sound and safe pineapple cultivation for a group of ethnic-minority Garo people in rural Bangladesh. The Garo’s current pineapple production utilizes pineapple grown as an intercrop in combination with banana, ginger, and under-forest trees, and the fruit is generally sold into the fresh market. The assignment was sponsored by Winrock International.
