For his dedication to supporting and enhancing invasive species management on Kauaʻi and throughout Hawaiʻi, Extension agent Roshan Manandhar is the recipient of the 2022 Hawaiʻi Invasive Species Awareness Month Kauaʻi Island MVP Award! The Hawaiʻi Foodbank has kicked off its Annual State Employees Food Drive running through May 13, and the goal this year is to raise $147,000 and 39,000 pounds of food. The top five most wanted items are: monetary contributions, canned proteins (chicken/tuna), canned meals (stew/spaghetti), canned vegetables/fruit, and rice (five to ten-pound bags are preferred).
Mymarommatoidea is a group of miniscule but very beautiful wasps, around 0.5 mm in length – which to our eyes look like specks of dust. They’ve been elusive to entomologists, and were the last major group of parasitoid wasps about which nearly nothing was known regarding their biology. We have scant records of what they do in the world and none of what they develop on. In fact, living individuals in their natural environment have never been recorded in the scientific literature.
The four collections of original clothing design will get their world premiere on May 1, so for now, the photo and video you see here are just glimpses of what’s to come at “Vogue 56,” the 56th Annual Fashion Show. Set for May 1 on UHM campus, the show will be entirely run by undergrad students of the Fashion Design and Merchandising Program in the Dept. of Family and Consumer Sciences.
