One of the world’s preeminent climate scientists, Dr. Chris Field, will be presenting “Climate Change Impacts and Solutions: Finding the Accelerator Pedal” as part of the 2018 Geography Distinguished Lecture Series in the Art Auditorium (Room 132) on Friday, March 16, at 3:00–4:30 p.m.

One of the members of the CTAHR ‘ohana to be honored at this year’s Awards Banquet will be nematologist Gerald Santo, the 2018 Outstanding Alumnus, who saved Pacific Northwest farmers millions of dollars and improved crop yields with cultural practices and nematicides that control nematode infestations in the soil. 

Anyone who’s currently teaching or developing a sustainability-relevant course may want to consider applying for the Second Annual Grand Challenges Institute (GC18), three days of intensive trans-disciplinary professional development with course and educational project (re)design focusing on conservation and lived practice. 

Undergraduate students interested in Native Hawaiian cultural practices in agriculture, land management, and sustainability may be interested in the opportunity for one-year fellowships in ahupua‘a management. CTAHR engaged with nearly 500 students, teachers, and community members at the Manoa Experience 2018. Highlights included Jon-Paul Bingham’s (MBBE) cone snail laboratory, a competitive mini golf tournament, a succulent giveaway for potential future horticulturists, and a little lamb from Animal Sciences.
