Aleta Corpuz, who just graduated with an MS in Horticulture, has been awarded the Bruce Briggs Memorial Scholarship for 2018 by the International Plant Propagators Society (IPPS). Aleta, who worked as a graduate assistant to Orville Baldos, is interested in using native plants as ornamentals and starting a native plant nursery.

For those applying for the Maui County FY 2019 grant competition, proposals are due directly to Maui County administrator Cindy Reeves at reevesc@hawaii.edu before 4 p.m. on June 14. Projects are expected to be completed within the calendar year, no extensions, and the budget needs to be firm.

Eat and Learn

During the Spring 2018 semester, HNFAS provided more than 4000 muffins and 1000 Grab and Go meals to students for free. Food preparation was a joint effort of Joannie Dobbs and Alan Titchenal (both HNFAS), with volunteer help from HNFAS students Simen Sam, Vanessa Almeida, Katie Seaton, and Nicole Tomasa.
