Students interested in attending the 2020 ILF should consider applying for student travel fellowships. It will bring together industry leaders, government professionals, and members of academia to discuss domestic and international livestock and food production. Fellows will also get to attend a rodeo, experience unique tours of some of Colorado’s top agricultural enterprises, have behind-the-scenes access to the National Western Stock Show, and engage in a full day of networking and interaction with an impressive lineup of keynote speakers and industry panelists.

Kelvin Sewake retired as Interim CTAHR Associate Dean of Extension on August 30, 2019. In appreciation for his 34 years of serving within CTAHR in various administrative roles and as Extension agent in Floriculture and Nursery Crops, a farewell tea was held for him on September 3 at the Komohana Research & Extension Center in Hilo.

Over 200 faculty, staff, and students attended the CTAHR Fall Fair last week to enjoy games, demonstrations, giveaways, and prizes offered by college clubs and programs. It was great way to start out the semester and engage with the CTAHR ‘ohana.

Those working with industrial hemp have an opportunity to make their voices heard. The Environmental Protection Agency has received applications to add hemp to the labeling of ten currently registered pesticide products that contain active ingredients with established tolerance exemptions. Due to the EPA’s expectation that these initial applications involving hemp may be of significant interest to the public, and to enhance transparency, EPA is offering the opportunity to comment.

Malaysia’s Monetary Policy Is in Good Hands

CTAHR alumnus Yeah Kim Leng has been appointed for a third term to Bank Negara’s monetary policy committee (MPC). Bank Nagara is Malaysia’s equivalent to the Federal Reserve, and the MPC is responsible for formulating monetary policy and guidelines and procedures for the conduct of monetary operations. Kim earned his Ph.D. in Agriculture Resource Economics from CTAHR in 1992.
