MS student Alexandra Paer (MBBE) was recently honored with a $1000 award from the C-MAIKI #mahimicrobe2018 graduate competition for her innovative research proposal to set up an experimental system to test the relationship between GSK3b inhibition, corn silk ingestion, and the microbiome in Alzheimer’s-like mouse-model systems.

CTAHR celebrated 90 years of Cooperative Extension and 100 years of 4-H in Hawai'i on November 7. Attendees included current Extension faculty and staff, retirees, and stakeholders. US and local lawmakers, Dean Nicholas Comerford, interim associate dean for Extension Kelvin Sewake, and state 4-H  leader Jeff Goodwin spoke on the past, present, and future of Extension and 4-H in Hawai’i.

UH Foundation has started their annual fall calling campaign for CTAHR, and they’re armed with information about the college’s many exciting programs and activities! Consider supporting one of the CTAHR giving campaigns administered by the Foundation, from Cooperative Extension Turf Management to the Center on the Family’s programs and activities.

CTAHR was triumphantly represented at RCUH’s 2018 Awards Luncheon, with both first- and second-place awardees. COF’s Annalynn Macabantad and Dana Senaha took second place in the Team category, and GoFarm director Janel Yamamoto won first prize in the Researcher/Project Manager/Professional category!

FDM alumna and award-winning author Janet Mock will be the commencement speaker at UHM’s graduation ceremony in December. Janet is a writer, cultural commentator, and advocate for transgender women’s rights who has been called one of “the most influential people on the Internet” and one of “12 new faces of black leadership” by TIME.
