Welcome back to Kristen Jamieson, the new Wai‘anae Farm to School coordinator! While her position is housed in HNFAS, Kristen is a CTAHR alumna with a B.S. in NREM and a minor in TPSS. But her previous experience working at UH as the student sustainability coordinator and at Kahumana Organic Farms makes her the perfect person to educate keiki about healthy local foods. She also contributed to the TPSS Horticultural Society, worked at an ag-tech start-up, and taught gardening at a local elementary school. Her ultimate goal is to increase food sustainability and demand for local farmers through the Wai‘anae Farm to School program.
This project works to create healthier communities, starting with the children. It educates students about healthy food choices and provides resources to school gardens and education programs. Kristen’s other main objective is to bring local foods into schools and after-school activities: by identifying the community’s most pressing needs and creating partnerships between key players, she will help to create a more sustainable food system for our islands.
