The Variety Showcase Goes Tropical event hosted by GoFarm Hawai‘i and the Culinary Breeding Network at Kapi‘olani Community College was an exciting celebration that brought an array of exciting crop varietals together with culture and cuisine, blended brilliantly in bite-size tastings by local chefs.
Kaua‘i County administrator Russell Messing recently served as co-guest editor and contributor for a special issue of the journal BioControl, focusing on the current status of biological control theory, research, and implementation worldwide. Also contributing to the issue were Mark Wright and Gordon Bennett (PEPS).
Shu-Hwa Lin and Ju-Young Kang (FCS/FDM) have co-authored a paper recently published in the Journal of Textile Engineering & Fashion Technology, “Fitting Simulation Evaluation on Personalized Avatars,” that examines visualization of fit of garment designs on generic and personalized virtual avatars.
Loriena Yancura’s (FCS) CSREES Multistate project, “Rural Families Speak About Health,” has just published a special issue summarizing publications and findings from the project. Lori is co-author of the article “Understanding Family Well-Being in the Context of Rural Poverty: Lessons from the Rural Families Project.”
Hosted by PEPS, Dr. Larry Duncan will present two seminars, “Natural History Informing Nematode IPM in Citrus Orchards” on March 15 and “It Takes a Village: Conservation of Entomopathogenic Nematodes” on March 16, both from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
