Professor Qing Li, who has continually broken new ground in agricultural chemistry since joining CTAHR’s Department of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering in 1995, was awarded the 2020 UH Board of Regents’ Excellence in Research Award.
Qing’s work into chemical proteomics, phytopharmaceuticals, pesticides, and the environment has advanced our understanding of agricultural chemistry at the most fundamental levels. A prolific author, he has co-authored 400 peer-reviewed scientific publications and created 20 patent applications. His papers have been cited more than 9,000 times.
Most recently, a research group led by Qing has discovered flavonoids in maize (corn) silk that could potentially be used to combat Alzheimer’s disease.
“I am greatly honored,” Qing says, “but none of these research accomplishments would have been possible without CTAHR students and postdocs. The Regents’ award is a recognition of their contributions to science, Hawai‘i, and the global community. The news is particularly encouraging in this unprecedented time of COVID-19, and I urge everyone to please stay safe.”
