Vogue 56 on TV

CTAHR’s very own Fashion Design and Merchandising students were featured last week on KHON2 news to promote their upcoming show, Vogue 56, FDM’s 56th Annual Fashion Showcase.

“The point of the show is to showcase four collections by our student designers, and the show is also created by our production team,” explained production team lead student Oliva Maguire to KHON news reporter Kamaka Pili. “So it is all student-run and student-created to show off the passion, the hard work, the skill of all of our designers, and really give them that fashion show experience they can take on into the real world post-graduation.”

Kamaka also visited the FDM classrooms to talk with FDM students Cara Yoshimi, Kanani Sato, and Jordan Casteen to learn more about their experiences as designers at UH. Jordan explained how he was able to work with the Japanese Cultural Center for his collection inspired by Japanese streetwear. “They allowed us to use kimonos and we’re up-cycling them and turning them into new pieces,” he said. “It’s a very exciting collection and we are very thankful that JCCH allowed us to use old kimonos to turn into new items.” Jordan’s collection will be featured alongside his peers’ designs in Vogue 56.

This is FDM’s first in-person fashion show in two years after being forced to cancel in 2020 and go virtual in 2021 due to the pandemic. The Vogue 56 fashion show can be attended in person or via livestream and will take place on Sunday, May 1st, 5:30 p.m. at McCarthy Mall. To book your tickets, head over to this page.
