Animal scientist, CTAHR alumnus, and retired HNFAS professor Jim Carpenter has received the 2018 Outstanding Alumni Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Vermont. After getting his BS from Vermont, Jim went on to earn his MS in Animal Nutrition from the Animal Science program in CTAHR in 1969 and a Ph.D. from Cornell in 1976. Then he returned to teach in the Animal Science department at CTAHR. An active graduate committee chair and member, Jim oversaw 57 undergraduate and graduate committees. His extramural research funding totaled over $2.25 million on a broad range of projects, and he has received many university and national teaching awards. Jim retired from CTAHR in 2009.
