Honors for MBBE

Two Molecular Biosciences and BioEngineering faculty members recently received national honors related to chemistry. Qing X. Li, left, won the AGRO Innovation Award from the American Chemical Society. Daniel Owens, right, received the Arthur. C. Neish Young Investigator Award from the Phytochemical Society of North America.

Li was honored for a body of work in pesticide chemistry that has significantly enhanced agricultural management and productivity. He also focuses on agricultural chemistry and the fate of agrochemicals, functional foods, and food safety.

Owens’ award involved presentation of his paper, “Identification and Mode of Action of Herbicidal Natural Products” at the Phytochemical Society’s annual meeting. He investigates herbicidal potential of natural products from allelopathic tropical and subtropical plants for activity against broadleaf and grassy weeds.
