Family Training and Sustainable Living

The Family Education Training Center of Hawai‘i (FETCH), headquartered at the iconic Energy House on the UHM campus, is hosting a Garden Showcase. FETCH teaches parents how to lead effectively and shows children how to take responsibility for their actions and effects on the group. In FETCH’s integrated programs, family members develop teamwork as they work together to complete hands-on projects in sustainable family gardening. Everyone can learn to grow, harvest, prepare, cook and eat their own food at home.

  • Location: 2020 East West Road, on the UHM campus

  • Date: Saturday, July 27

  • Time: 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

  • Parking: available on Pamoa Road, about a 5-minute walk to the Energy House

The Showcase provides opportunities to tour the Energy House and its beautiful surrounding plant, fruit, and vegetable gardens. Visitors can learn about the Energy House’s unique architectural design and what makes it a model home for sustainable living. They can also explore how FETCH’s Youth and Family Advantage Programs are helping families make their relationships healthier through Adlerian parenting principles and helping youth build skills for a career in sustainability. Staff will be on hand to answer questions. Last but not least, participants are invited to bring home a plant from among the many vegetable, fruit, and ornamental plants grown and cared for at the Energy House! These include cantaloupe, broccoli, orange pepper, aloe vera, and other starts! (Plants will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and any monetary donations are appreciated.)

Refreshments will be served at the Showcase. If you have any questions, you can call 936-9584 or email fetchoahu@gmail.com.
