Feeling dry? Come to the latest installment of the Natural Resources and Environmental Management seminar series (see the series schedule, attached) to hear East-West Center fellow Dr. Abby Frazier discuss “Drought Knowledge Exchange in Hawai‘i and the US-Affiliated Pacific Islands.”
Dr. Frazier will be sharing her experiences working as a climatologist and geographer specializing in geospatial analysis of big climate datasets. Her work is currently focused on El Niño, drought, and water resources issues in the Pacific Islands. She will give an overview of drought impacts in the Pacific island region for five types of drought: meteorological, agricultural, hydrological, ecological, and socioeconomic.
In her presentation she will outline the ongoing drought knowledge exchange projects and highlight the importance of improving our understanding of droughts to increase resilience and response of land managers, help reduce wildfire risk, and protect threatened and endangered species.
