Civil Beat recently published an article about the workshops CTAHR and the island Invasive Species Councils have conducted on how eco-tour operators can avoid spreading Rapid ‘Ohi‘a Death (ROD) and other pathogens, weeds, and pests. The workshops have been supported by the Hawaii Tourism Authority and CTAHR through Smith-Lever funding. Workshops have been held in Hilo and Kona and on Maui, O‘ahu, and Kaua‘i. The workshop leaders, who include Extension forester J.B. Friday and ROD educational specialist Corie Yanger (both NREM), will be developing an online training program with the Hawaii Ecotourism Association. Linda Cox (NREM) has also collaborated in reaching eco-tour operators and connecting with the Hawaii Ecotourism Association. The trainings also feature a new video on decontamination by multimedia specialist Godwin Polendey (OCS).
