As part of the Malama ‘Aina Manoa Project—a collaboration between Botany, TPSS, and Buildings & Grounds Management—grad student Kauahi Perez (TPSS) collaborated with Noweo Kai (Botany) on a Student Activity and Program Fee Board (SAPFB) grant proposal to purchase native Hawaiian plants for areas on Manoa campus in dire need of beautification. In celebration of Earth Day, Kauahi and Noweo decided to give Moore Hall a much-needed facelift with new landscaping. In addition to weeding and removing dead, invasive, and unwanted plants, they rejuvenated Moore Hall’s planting beds with native Hawaiian plants such as kupukupu, neke, na'u, kulu'i, 'uki, palapalai, ko, and
Carex. Other Moore Hall inhabitants also brought a note of drama by adding bromeliads to the mix. Next time you’re passing by Moore Hall, take the scenic route and check out the new landscaping!
